It's a few minutes past midnight as I write this week's column, and I would normally have been fast asleep, had it not been for a call from a reader a few minutes ago. Just as I dozed off to sleep, this reader took it upon himself to wake me up to follow up on a website he had created for World Cup 99. While the calendar clocked the countdown to the event, he on his part, has been paging every now and then and calling up at weird times, despite being asked to correspond via email. On the other hand, there were dozens of readers who sent in their homepages for review by email - and a big hats off to you guys - we're getting better and better! And with the World Cup fever hitting us all, now is a good time to download a Sachin Tendulkar wallpaper created by reader Sameer Chandragiri.

For those of you who haven't yet caught the promos, a new Internet show named TV.com premiered on Star World last week. The show airs at 9pm every Sunday and the hosts take you through interesting sites, polls, games and features related to the Internet during their half-hour slot. A well done show, it is brought to you by The Computer Network, more popularly known as CNET - one of the better known Internet brands today. To catch up with the show online, visit their website http://tv.cnet.com/

Some of the best brains in the country will be leaving in another couple of months for further studies abroad. For those who will be leaving us this year or next, we've got some great sites to make life a bit easier for you.

US News has one of the most comprehensive education related resources in the US in their education section called .edu. While you'll find detailed information about colleges, scholarships, streams of studies, and the works, the most popular section on this site is the college rankings. The US News college rankings are updated annually and the 1999 rankings are just out. So if you want to see where the college you got an admit to stands, take a quick look. Alternatively, you could use this list to draw up the list of colleges you can target next year…

Net News reader Adib Motiwala has put a lot of effort into creating Destination USA - a resource for Indian students planning / going for further studies in the US. He's got links upfront to the big websites related to education abroad. Adib has put together some great information about the admission procedure, and uses his homepage to allow students going abroad to establish contact with each other, although for now, there are only students from his college listed there. His downloads section has downloadable lists of colleges, things to take when you're going there etc. He's recently added a chat room and an online poll that you can take on his pages.

Another useful page if you're going abroad is MS in the US - a page put up last year by a student going abroad. The page offers you a bird's eye view of the application procedure, offers you a template for your financial statement that you need to submit, a small list of scholarship / loan trusts for students to pursue, and visa related information, and a travel agent list.

And finally this week, Katrat's compilation of articles is another homepage that has a few thought provoking articles about the US, a collection of tips for those going to the US for the first time, and some experiences of Indians in the US. Interesting with a lot of food for thought - do you still want to go abroad?

Once again, these last three pages just go to show the spirit of the Internet - putting your experiences online help others to benefit from what you've been through. Hopefully, they in turn will pass on what they've benefited… Go on, create your homepage and leave your mark in Cyberia!
