It's that time of the month yet again when we look at a few interesting personal homepages created by readers of this column. Till a few years ago, you needed to be a geek to be able to create your own homepage on the Internet. The scenario has changed so much today that anyone who can type and use a mouse can create their own homepage! So when you create your homepage, do email me - if it's interesting, it'll find mention here.

The first question that people ask when you mention creating a homepage inevitably is, "What do I put on my homepage?" Good question. You'll discover the answer for yourself if you visit reader Amit's page. Amit's Homepage is typical example of what a personal homepage is all about. It starts off with a welcome message "Welcome to Amit's homepage", and a counter showing you just how many people have been there before you. Then comes the statutory list of links to other pages that Amit has created. You'll find the mandatory "About Me" page where he talks about himself, the things he likes doing, his favourite hobbies, music groups, games, and what have you. You'll also find snaps of himself, his friends, his car (people with pets usually have their snaps up there). Now there has to be a links section, featuring some of Amit's favourite links on the Internet. Putting these up helps visitors find sites they might never have heard of before, or stumble across otherwise. The final section usually focuses on something that the webpage creator is interested in - humour and some love lines in Amit's case. And like any typical personal homepage, you'll find an "under construction" sign somewhere on these pages (in this case, on the humour page). Being an engineer, Amit also has some cute little JavaScripts on his pages that tell you the time of day, the browser you are using (as if you didn't know), but also tell you how much time you spent on the page - 267 seconds - uh oh! time for me to move onto other pages now…

Devesh Tanna moves a step ahead than Amit. In addition to a page about himself, he has pages that give more details about his business - the card and gift shops he runs. And the bonus for visitors to his homepage is the "Urmila page" he's created with her filmography , 20 snaps of the sultry lady, and her contact details.

While Devesh had just one page dedicated to his favourite actress, there are others who choose to dedicate their entire mini-website to their favourite hero / heroine / model. Two good examples are Sachin Sawe's Aishwarya Rai Gallery and Prateek Rastogi's "Best of Aishwarya Rai" . Both these guys have been smitten by the lady and they have used to pages to create shrines to the lady. I know where they're coming from - there was a time when I was infatuated with Ms. Rai (she even patted my left shoulder), but sorry Ash, some of us graduate to more realisable dreams!

Sachin has dozens of neatly categorised pictures of Ash in his photo gallery. So if you want to see the traditional Aishwarya, or the black and white snaps, see her in different moods, or just some close-ups, this is the page to go to. Sachin's put a lot of effort into these pages, and it shows!

Prateek Rastogi on the other hand, has much more than pictures - you can learn more about Ash, download some songs, see some movie clips, join the fan club and receive Aishwarya newsletters. Hidden somewhere in these pages is a bit about Prateek, and why he's created this online dedication to Ash.

A variation of the above, Sanjay's homepage has a different focus each week - MP3, wallpapers, and jokes being a few. This week's focus was music and he's done a great job of putting together lists of a great collection of links to pages on different music artistes and groups from all around the Net. I found my favourite Shania Twain there - log on, you'll find yours too.

Needless to say, these graphic intensive sites require a TCP/IP connection for you to fully experience the pages, all is not lost if you have a shell account. Saurabh and Nitin have created pages to show other shell account users to optimise their shell accounts and make the most of it. Get your tips, software for shell accounts from their pages.

If you still have any questions regarding a personal homepage, do email me.
