I'm not going to tell you that this is the first column of July. And I'm not going to tell you that since it's the first column in July, we will be looking at homepages users have sent in to be showcased. You need not be reminded that these pages are created by aam janta like you and me - not professional web designers. And you definitely need not be told that you too can send in your URLs to be highlighted in this column, if it's jara hatke!

This time, last month, we looked at reader Arun Raisinghani's webpage which had, among other things, assignments for the first year of engineering. Taking that further, Satya, from Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, has put up Pascal program assignments for second year engineering students. He also has a mailing list for engineering students and another one for intra-college students. You can sign up for these on his webpage, but don't stop at that - there's more fun stuff that you can wade through before you leave.

World of Hobbies is Amit Pandey's contribution to hobbyists - his pages contain information and links to various hobbies. Be it astronomy, coin collecting, gardening, photography, hiking, stamp collecting, or web designing you're interested in, he's got a collection of links that would be useful to get you started off.

Moving onto personal pages, 16 year old Aditya offers you minute after minute of fun on his pages - Aditya Online. His pages are primarily a collection of links you can spend hours on - he's got his favourite cricket and bollywood links (both with pictures too), and links to the best international sites (from the Webby awards), plus links to CHIP magazines selection of the 25 best Indian sites. Aditya's also put together quite a few laughs for you in his jokes section as you laugh your way out.

Suchitra is a 22 year old printing engineer, who has booked her home in cyberspace - Suchi's Space as she calls it. She's got a great collection of links - bookmarks neatly categorised - greetings, books, humour, music, graphics and printing related links, besides her very own favourites. But what takes the cake on her pages is the "My Stuff" where she showcases her works - both in the poetry and digital art departments. And while you can be your own judge of her work, she's done some great stuff, specially in her digital art section.

Kargil raises its head through a page created by Mr. Kumar , who put it online to get details of families of soldiers who have sacrificed their lives now as well as in earlier wars India has fought. He plans to ensure that the families don't suffer financially. While the intentions are good, what is missing is details on how he plans to achieve it. And on the Net, where you don't know the person behind the page, that is very important - credibility and transparency rules online. But he's given his email address on the page, so contact him for more details or if you have some ideas on the best way to help.

And finally this week, we have something for a very special audience - the previous generation - senior citizens. Dignity Foundation is a Non Government Organisation dedicated to providing services for Indian people above 50. Their site allows you to explore the organisation, and what they do. You can also subscribe / gift a subscription of Dignity Dialogue Magazine, and if you do, they promise to send one free subscription to one old age home in India. And please don't go for the 4 year subscription based on the price they have put up - it's not just Rs. 12, but Rs. 1200 - a rather expensive typo, methinks! Thanks to reader Gopal Srinivasan for sending in this site.

Log on next week for some interesting and fun sites!

Newsflash! There is a fake email (claiming to be from VSNL) doing the rounds asking users to email their usernames and passwords in reply. If you've been reading this column regularly, you would have noticed the telltale signs of the email being a fake. But for the newbies - VSNL would never do something like that, so don't fall for it! A thank you to Mr. S. P. Dalal for forwarding this email.
