Birthday blues and nice guys

Annual bath-days (birthdays) evoke different reactions from different people - I was terrified last week about the fact that the additional year would bring along additional dentures, white hair and flab. I logged onto the Net to get rid of those birthday blues, and guess what ! I found a web site dedicated to me. Well, to be really honest, the web site is not dedicated exclusively to me, but to a few others too. OK, OK, I can't live with this untruth - this site is dedicated to all things on the Internet related to the name, of.... 'Lyndon'. Lyndon is definitely not a common name, in fact there are 2 other Lyndons within 5 minutes walking distance of my home. But this site is something else - it makes a Lyndon feel a part of a small global community - with our own place on the web to hang out at !

It all started about a year ago, when one UK based Lyndon - Lyndon J Allen, looked up search engines for occurrences of his name - to find out like named species. The customary light bulb then lit up and he tried linking this very rare species. From human Lyndons to establishments, universities, banks and the Lyndon Johnson Space Center, you'll find them here. So the Allen Lyndon started a home page called The Lyndons 'Lyndon' Links Page - to link Lyndons from all over the globe. Soon, as the number of Lyndons grew, Lyndon (Allen) decided to get an entire site - where we are now huddled on the web - http://www.lyndon.org. Incidentally, lyndon.com is taken up by a furniture manufacturer in Lyndon, Vermont, USA.

Poet, writer, artist, musician, professor, truck driver, businessman, detective (a female one at that too!), analyst - we, as Lyndons have varied interests and professions. The Lyndon Links page has a clickable map of the world, which surfers can click on to see any of the 71 Lyndons from different continents. The page also offers an exclusive mailing list (which we use to share Lyndon talk - you need to be a Lyndon to participate), a guestbook, and a whole lot of buttons (like the Netscape and Internet Explorer buttons available).

Another interesting site is Nice Guy (http://www.geocities.com/Broadway/5956/) - a webzine (on-line magazine) dedicated to all of the nice guys in the world. To find out if you qualify, you can take a small quiz that tests your niceness quotient. You could also peek into the thoughts of other nice guys in the Nice guys thoughts page - with a nice guy column and articles. Nice guy cartoons, and nice guy links wrap up this webzine. Sadly enough, these pages haven't been updated for quite some time now. A birthday gift from this site, after taking the quiz, was a small button certifying me as a "Nice Guy" ! It's a comforting thought that at least someone believes I'm a nice guy.

Getting stuff like sites and awards, and multimedia birthday cards online is fun, but the big day was hajaar more pleasurable offline - and you'd better believe that since it comes from a die hard Net addict !

Keep up to date on the ShellSock saga at its website : http://www.xtendtech.com.
