Girls ? Ugh !

"Girls ? Ugh !" - the title itself is indication enough of what's woven in this mini-website. A few seconds of surfing Girls ? Ugh ! (latter pronounced "Eerh!" and not "Ugh") (http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~tcant/Ugh/index.html) is time enough for you draw your own conclusions about the webmaster of these pages. And no one will blame you for assuming that he's either never been in love, been very unlucky in love, or is just a girl-hater with a few web pages and lots of time to spare.

But the webmaster, Tim Cant, explained the background to Girls ? Ugh ! in an email interview:

"When looking at the relationships of my friends it is often the women who mistreat and exploit the men. Now, surely feminism is all about equality? Apparently not; 'Girl Power' is on the uprise, and the sensitive 90's man is under attack from overly assertive (to the point of aggressive) females. Girls? Ugh! is just one man's way of fighting back, and saying; "Yes! I am a man, and I'm proud not to be under the jackboot of a harsh mistress!" ". But as an afterthought, Tim added, "I thought it would be a cool way to get lots of chicks writing to me." A-HA !

The mission of this page is to help poor souls avoid getting trapped in a relationship, which Tim calls "the most sinister of all a woman's schemes". Now this being the world wide web, everyone with a homepage is entitled to his or her opinion, and Tim's only exercising his right.

To separate the male from the female species, this "anti-girls" site has a link to keep women from exploring its opinionated pages and divert their attention to knitting, cooking, and embroidery!

Now that the women have been sieved away and only the hard - core male population remains, we reach the meaty portion of the page. What follows is a Jughead paradise (remember how much Jug hated girls in the Archie comics ?). You'll come across material explaining why having a girlfriend is a bad thing, and lists simple tactics to avoid getting a girlfriend. Then there are the 5 classic dumping clichés that guys keep hearing, horror stories about how girls have made lives hell, and even hate mail allegedly from angered surfers. Tim's also been very generous in providing pictures of pretty ladies (for all you

lechers out there, they're fully clothed) that beat real women because they don't talk, they do listen, and they don't make a guy's life a living hell !

Last, but not the least is the Valentine Day survival kit - scathing posters, letters and vouchers. Almost all pages on Girls ? Ugh ! are open for reader contribution, so contribute your two - paise worth if you are a member of the girl hater club. Those among us with girlfriends (and still happily unmarried) of course may choose to differ.

In the spirit of the site of the week, here are some reasons why men prefer computers to women :

Before feminist readers furiously start dialing up VSNL to send me a few flames, allow me to bring good tidings - there's relief (and revenge) in sight. There's this great site that gives you a chance to get back at guys - but you'll have to login next week to find out about it !

Many readers have written in asking for a comparison between the latest versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer. You can now look up the C/Net comparison of the two at http://www.cnet.com/Content/Reviews/Compare/Browsers4/ss02.html. If you have a TCP/IP account, you can even find out which browser best suits your needs based on a few questions you answer.
