Satellite Net-work

Thanks to the STAR TV network, we now get to watch some of the hottest serials and soaps from around the globe. Right from the eye - popping, mind - captivating, visual treats in Baywatch, to the downright irreverrent Simpsons. Then there's Cops for the action oriented viewers, Star Trek for all you trekkies, and Beavis & Butthead on MTV for all you grunge guys. As for me, I find it very difficult to go through the week when I don't get my weekly dose of Beverly Hills 90210. Faced with the option of staying awake till the wee hours of morning to catch the re - run of the show, I turned to the Net to see if it would be of any use. There were quite a few web pages set aside for 90210, none of them official web pages, but they were the result of long hours on the part of die - hard fans of the serial.

The most professional of the lot was called 90210 . This page has a very professional look about it, unlike some others that had an amateur look. Out here, surfers have the option of getting to know the creators of the serial, meeting the cast, or just getting a rundown of some of the episodes of this popular serial. At this point in time, the episode summaries are way way ahead of our times - we are, at the least a year and a half behind the guys in the US. There are also two sections that go under the headings "retro" and "clique". The retro section consists of pictures and brief details about the parent generation in the serial, while the clique part has - you guessed it - stuff about the 90210 gang - Brandon, Kelly, Dylan, David, Donna, Andrea, and even the slightly older Nat from The Peach Pit. Date of birth, current status, real life names, it's all here.

Another Beverly Hills 90210 related page is by a real fan of the serial - Jennifer Besides the stuff available on the 90210 page, Jennifers page boasts of 90210 gossip, 90210 trivia games, 90210 poll, 90210 quotes, 90210 this and 90210 that. She also has a letter of encouragement from 90210 Executive Producer, Steve Wasserman. Plenty of hours of fun surfing here, though I finally had to wait for the late late night rerun on Star Plus.

One very noticable thing about both the Beverly Hill web pages were the prominent disclaimers mentioning that there's "nothing official about it". But that's not the case with the X-Files home page which is an official web site and makes no bones about proclaiming that fact. Out here you can choose to browse through the case files, take an "X-test", or sign up with the fan - forum. Being the official web site has it's advantages too - X-Files related merchandise can be (and is ) marketed at this site. There's the X-Files analog, anodised black steel, black leather band, limited edition, X-Files Watch with the X-Files Logo with a price tag of US $ 24.95 ! Then there's the X-Files opening-sequence graphic T-shirt (100% cotton ) with the X-Files web site address on the back of the T-Shirt that takes the shirt off your back at US $ 16.5 !! In case you can't look into the future, a stop at their "What's Cool" section will tell you about some of the future episodes upto a month in advance. Under the fan forum section, you can log into any one of the two available chat channels, and electronically talk to other fans, discussing just about anything !

And now what you've all been waiting for - the Baywatch site. The first thing noticable here (not the pictures) are the damn long load times associated with the pages at this site. The Baywatch Insider the official Baywatch magazine is there to keep you updated on what's happening in the serial and outside too - like Pamela Andersons wedding etc.. The photo gallery in all fairness has 10 snaps of some of the star cast with Pam managing only a single snap ! The Baywatch Screening Room has a single audio file of the theme song (in .wav format), and 40 movie files (for you to see some action) with sizes ranging from 3 - 4 Mb (in .mov and .avi formats).

Those were just three of the most noticable TV Websites related to serials we in India are familiar with. In case you're interested, you could follow the following links for some more small screen entertainment.
